Over millennia Tunisia has attracted visitors,
who have stayed and left their mark. Berbers, Phoenicians, Romans, Vandals,
Byzantines, Arabs, Turks and French have all been here. And it is not hard
to see why...
On the Mediterranean coast of North Africa, Tunisia has an exceptionally
attractive coastline, rich agricultural soil, deserts, salt lakes, mountains
and of course, a wonderful climate.
Nowadays visitors come to enjoy Tunisia's excellent beaches, to visit
the Sahara and to discover the country's rich cultural heritage.
Modern day Tunisia is the fastest developing country in North Africa,
with a population close to 10 million, 1 million of whom live in the capital,
Tunis. 96% of the population is Muslim and Arabic is the official language.
French is widely used and many Tunisians also speak English, Italian or
German (sometimes all three).
Tunisia is known for its tolerance, stability and friendliness.
