Ichkeul National Park, by Bizerte, is a stop-over for hundreds of thousands
of migrating birds, such as ducks, geese, storks and flamingoes.
Bou Hedma National Park, south of Sidi Bouzid, with its unique woodland
ecosystem, supports birds such as golden eagles, falcons, nightjars, shrikes
and wheatears.
The Thyna Salt Pans, south of Sfax, are home to a multitude of water birds,
including spoonbills, flamingoes, cranes and terns.

ITINERARY
DAY 1 :
Arrival in Tunis or Monastir Airport: transfer to your hotel in the Sousse
area. Dinner and overnight 4* hotel.
DAY 2: Sfax
/ Thyna / Gafsa / Tozeur
Early morning travel to Sfax. From Sfax to the salt pans at Thyna. Here
it is possible to see a variety of waders including marsh sandpipers (Tringa
stagnatilis) . Continue to Tozeur via Gafsa. En route you may see long-legged
buzzards (Buteo rufinus), lanners (Falco biarmicus), Bonelli's eagles
(Hieraaetus fasciatus), red-rumped wheatears (Oenanthe moesta) and desert
wheatears (Oenanthe deserti). Lunch en route. Dinner and overnight in
a 4* hotel in Tozeur.
DAY 3 : Tozeur
/ Chebika / Tamerza / Metlaoui / Tozeur
Depart for the mountain oases of Chebika and Tamerza. Here it is possible
to see thekla larks (Galerida theklae), lesser short-toed larks (Calandrella
rufescens), short-toed larks (Calandrella brachydactyla), desert larks
(Ammomanes deserti), trumpeter finch (Bucanetes githagineus), house buntings
(Emberiza striolata), white-crowned black wheatears (Oenanthe leucopyga),
red-rumped wheatears (Oenanthe moesta), mourning wheatears (Oenanthe lugens),
Barbary partridges (Alectoris barbara), Temminck's horned larks (Eremophila
bilopha), and thick-billed larks (Rhamphocoris clothey). Return to Tozeur
in the afternoon, and a stroll through the palm grove where you may come
across Fulvous babblers (Turdoides fulvus), Moussier's redstars (Phoenicurus
moussieri), spectacled warblers (Sylvia conspicillata) and Tristram's
warblers (Sylvia deserticola).
Lunch en route. Dinner and overnight in a 4* hotel in Tozeur.
DAY 4: Tozeur
/ Chott el Djerid / Douz
The morning will be spent visiting the Tozeur area, where it is possible
to see hoopoe larks (Alaemon alaudipes), desert wheatears (Oenanthe deserti),
cream-coloured coursers (Cursorius cursor).
Continue to Douz via the Chott El Djerid salt lake. En route you may spot
fan-tailed warblers (Cisticola juncidis), Tristram's warblers (Sylvia
deserticola).and fulvous babblers (Turdoides fulvus).
On arrival at Douz, you will have a visit of the area, where it is possible
to see bar-tailed desert larks (Ammomanes cincturus), hoopoe larks (Alaemon
alaudipes), scrub warblers (Scotocerca inquieta) and brown-necked crows
(Corvus ruficollis).
Lunch en route. Dinner and overnight in a 4* hotel in Douz.
DAY 5: Douz
/ Grand Erg Oriental / Douz
An early start for a visit to the Grand Erg Oriental in the Sahara. Birds
spotted in this area include cream-coloured coursers (Cursorius cursor),
hoopoe larks (Alaemon alaudipes), white-crowned black wheatears (Oenanthe
leucopyga), Barbary partridges (Alectoris barbara), Moussier's redstars
(Phoenicurus moussieri), great grey shrikes (Lanius meridionalis) and
Spanish sparrows (Passer hispaniolensis).
Picnic lunch en route. Dinner and overnight in a 4* hotel in Douz.
DAY 6: Douz
/ Matmata / El Jem / Sousse
The day starts with a little more time in the Douz area to see any birds
that may not have been spotted the day before. Then head for Matmata looking
out for black wheatears (Oenanthe leucura), rock sparrows (Petronia petronia)
and house buntings (Emberiza striolata).
Travel to Sousse with a stop at El jem to visit the Roman coliseum.
Lunch en route and dinner and overnight in a 4* hotel in Sousse.
DAY 7:
Departure transfer from the Sousse hotel for the return flight from Tunis
or Monatir airport.
